For children and families in crisis who come to Foothill Family for treatment and healing, the holiday season can be a particularly difficult time.
While others in the community are rushing to purchase last-minute gifts and planning festive meals, these families are facing the daily challenges of overcoming trauma or abuse, often while struggling to stretch very limited resources.
More than 90 percent of our client children are from poverty level or low-income families that have difficulty meeting even basic needs such as clothing, food, and housing. Without assistance, a great number of these families would not be able to celebrate the holidays at all.
Making Seasons Brighter is Foothill Family's holiday program led by the Friends of Foothill Family! With the support of Friends members, scout troops, local community members, businesses, and YOU, Making Seasons Brighter will bring holiday gifts of clothes, toys, and necessities to local families in need during the holiday season. But rather than handing clients wrapped gifts in various bulk, the new program allows them to equitably select items, free of charge, that they need and want. This empowers our clients to be providers for their families and experience the joy of having selected the gifts that their children will unwrap on Christmas morning.
Foothill Family has had a holiday program in place to support its clients in greatest need for almost 20 years. Making Seasons Brighter, which evolved from Adopt-A-Family, began in 2016 and empowers families to be participants in their holiday experience, rather than recipient bystanders. This can make all the difference to position them as the providers that they strive to be for their families and helps them to feel supported and cared for during the holidays as they work toward a place of healing and hope for a brighter future.
